The people of the Federated States of Micronesia are primarily of Micronesian descent, with diverse island cultures. Christianity is the dominant faith in the Federated States of Micronesia, with Roman Catholic and Protestant churches making up the vast majority of religious affiliation—about 50% and 47% respectively.

Path to Independence
In 1979, four states chose self-determination, leading to the official establishment of the Federated States of Micronesia. The nation then entered into a Compact of Free Association with the United States and joined the UN in 1991, blending its past with modern governance.


Modern Governance
The FSM operates under a democratic system with Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches, drawing some inspiration from the U.S. model. Its Constitution protects both fundamental human rights and the enduring traditional customs of its people.
